Whole Wheat Honey and Goat Cheese Biscuits

Remember last week when I shared these brownies with you? Today, I have another recipe from Joy the Baker’s cookbook. This cookbook is a treasure trove of fabulous recipes and mouthwatering pictures!

I baked up these whole wheat biscuits on Sunday morning. The creamy goat cheese gives a slight hint of savory, but the honey makes you think you are eating a sweet biscuit. I drizzled maple syrup over these warm biscuits and really enjoyed the flavor!

Next week I get to choose the recipe to share with all of you…so many wonderful choices…I can’t decide!!!

Whole Wheat Honey and Goat Cheese Biscuits

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 14-16 minutes

Ingredients (8-10 biscuits)
  • 2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 6 Tbsp butter, cold, cubed, divided
  • 1/4 cup crumbled goat cheese
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 Tbsp honey
  • 2 Tbsp maple syrup
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place large cast iron skillet (or stainless steel skillet) in oven as it preheats.
In medium bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add in 4 Tbsp cold butter and goat cheese. Using hands, mix together for several minutes until you get a coarse meal.
Add honey and buttermilk to dry ingredients. Using a spoon, mix together until fully blended.
In hot skillet, add remaining 2 Tbsp butter. Drop biscuits by large scoop into pan. Return pan into oven and bake for about 14-16 minutes. Remove, let rest 5 minutes. Drizzle with maple syrup. Enjoy warm.

    Oh, I bet they were great with a drizzle of maple syrup…I sure wish I had some left to eat this morning! I can’t wait to see what you decide on for next week =)

    These look like the perfect Sunday morning breakfast. I love the earthy whole wheat color. I have the tea cakes sitting in front of me right now! I’m so excited for next week…

    Yay for goat cheese in a biscuit! I love the maple syrup – I could have used more sweetness, so that would be a great treat!

    I am always for adding more sugar to my food…so extra maple syrup sounds great to me:-) I really do need to get this book:-)

    i loved the biscuits too….the sweet and savory were the perfect combo. maple syrup is a nice addition. i might just give that a try the next time i whip some of these up…and there will be a next time!
