Ingredient Notes

Ingredients needed to make caramel macchiato coffee creamer.

Here’s everything you need to make this caramel macchiato coffee creamer recipe.

  • Whole milk – The higher fat content keeps the creamer from getting watered down when added to coffee.
  • Espresso powder – This strong instant coffee mimics the taste of the espresso in the coffee chain version. We use King Arthur for best flavor (bought on Amazon)!
  • Sweetened condensed milk – Essential for coffee creamer that’s sweet and, well, CREAMY!
  • Caramel sauceI used the ice cream sundae caramel topping from a squeeze bottle.

PRO TIP- We love making our own homemade vanilla extract, but if using store bought, be sure it’s pure extract, not imitation (for best flavor).

Tips and Tricks

  • Microwave the milk and espresso powder. The espresso powder will dissolve into the warm milk to distribute the flavor evenly throughout the creamer.
  • Whisk half way through. After 30 seconds, take the milk out of the microwave and whisk to help dissolve the espresso before heating for an additional 30 seconds.
  • Shake, shake shake! I have found the best way to combine the ingredients for coffee creamer is in a mason jar. Screw on the lid and give it a few vigorous shakes before storing the creamer in the fridge or adding it to your coffee.
  • Dunk. Whip up a batch of our caramel macchiato biscotti, or our easy orange biscotti to dip in your coffee for breakfast!

Recipe FAQS

How much coffee creamer does this recipe make?

This recipe makes 2 cups of caramel macchiato coffee creamer. It’s enough for anywhere from 8-12 cups of coffee depending on how much creamer you like to add!

How can I make it low fat?

For a lower fat coffee creamer, use fat free or low fat milk instead of whole milk and fat free sweetened condensed milk. You can also use a sugar free caramel sauce to reduce the sugar if you like.

How long does it keep?

The shelf life of homemade coffee creamer depends on the freshness of your milk. Check the expiration date on your milk and use that to determine how long your creamer will stay good.

Can I use this in iced coffee too?

YES! My caramel macchiato creamer tasted equally delicious added to iced coffee as it did to my hot coffee.

What can I use instead of espresso powder?

You can substitute the espresso powder for any powdered instant coffee. The coffee flavor may not be as strong but it will still taste good.

Can I make it without a microwave?

If you do not have a microwave, you can warm your milk in a sauce pan on the stove top instead. Keep the stove on the low setting and heat the milk just until it’s warm enough to dissolve the espresso powder, whisking often to avoid scalding.

  1. 5 stars
This is so good! With it being psl season I’ve had a hard time finding my favorite carmel macchiato creamer. But i might just have to to switch to making my own completely!
Another pro to this creamer is I can cut down the Lactose by using a Lactose free milk! I can handle some Lactose but not a lot.
Just want to note incase people are looking for a totally Lactose free option. The carmel and sweetened condensed milk still have Lactose.

  2. Would love if you put vanilla cannoli creamer on your list. It’s my fav but would love a cleaner version

  3. So is this for a ready to drink iced coffee or is this a creamer? I’m confused on the espresso powder.

  4. Really yummy. Thank you 😊. My husband loves it and he is a big fan of flavored creamer. Now we don’t have to buy it anymore.

  5. I made the French vanilla and love it. I didn’t think that I would use it up in 7-10 days but I did. I used fat free sweetened condensed milk and low fat almond milk but I love it. Next I’m going to try the Caramel Macchiato cause that’s my sons favorite creamer and I’m hoping he will try it. Nobody in my family loves home made stuff as much as me! Thank you so much for these recipes! Now I just walk on by the creamer section of the store cause I have something better at home!

  6. Thank you for this recipe! Can’t wait to try it!

I’ve been addicted to Caramel Macchiato’s since I was pregnant with my daughter, over 9 years ago! I would get so sick on Mochas and she would get an upset stomach if I had Mocha’s while breastfeeding. So, I switched to CM’s and have never switched back! (I just couldn’t give up my caffeine addiction!) I love the smooth vanilla with the velvety caramel…mmmm…must go have some now! 🙂

    Thank you!!

  7. Holy COW this is crazy good!! If I wasn’t already a coffee drinker I would become one just so I could have this! Could drink the whole dang jar! Thank you!!

  8. All these coffee creamer recipes look fabulous! They seem to make an awful lot more than I could use before the expiry date, though. Do you think there would be any difficulty with making it, and then freezing a portion of it for later?

  9. Do you heat it just to dissolve the espresso powder? Or is it so that all of the ingredients mix together better? I don’t have access to the powder, and I’ve made my own creamers without heating them before. I just don’t want to mess this one up because it sounds delicious!
