Why These Brownies are Best

If you love Peanut Butter Brownies, it’s time to try this PB&J version!

I have so many delicious brownie recipes on the blog, it would be impossible to choose a favorite. Most of those recipes start with a thick, fudgy brownie base made from scratch.

For these Peanut Butter & Jelly Brownies I wanted to make things as easy as possible. After all, isn’t the whole point of PB&J that it’s an easy sandwich?

  • This recipe starts with a box of fudge brownie mix!
  • Sweetened peanut butter is swirled into the batter.
  • Strawberry pie filling gets baked on top.
  • Every bite has a perfect balance of sweet, fruity and salty flavors.
  • They’ll make you feel like a kid again!

Ingredient Notes

Here’s what you’ll need to make these easy peanut butter jelly brownies.

  • Fudge Brownie Mix – You’ll need the mix, plus the water, oil and eggs for making the brownies.
  • Creamy peanut butter – Shelf stable peanut butter works best, not the natural kind you have to stir.
  • Strawberry pie filling – I use Lucky Leaf brand.
  • Powdered sugar – For sweetening the peanut butter batter.

Tips and Tricks

  • Start by preparing the brownie batter according to the directions on your box for a 13 x 9 inch pan.
  • Soften the peanut butter by microwaving it for 30 seconds. This makes it easier to combine with the egg and powdered sugar.
  • Drop the peanut butter mixture over the brownie batter before adding the strawberry filling.
  • Twirl the peanut butter, brownie and strawberry layers together with a butter knife in equal sections before baking.
  • Chill the baked, cooled brownies in the refrigerator before serving. They taste AMAZING cold!

Recipe FAQs

How do I store these brownies?

Store these brownies in a food safe airtight container in the refrigerator. They taste best enjoyed within 5 days, but in my house they never last that long!

Can I use all natural peanut butter instead?

I don’t recommend natural peanut butter for today’s brownie recipe. The oils separate as the brownies bake which makes them greasy and crumbly.
This is the time to use a good old jar of JIF or Skippy, just like when you were a kid.

Can I make this recipe with different kinds of pie filling?

You sure can! Grape pie filling would taste great in PB&J brownies, too. Raspberry and blueberry pie filling are two more options to try!

Can I make the brownie batter from scratch instead? What recipe would I use?

If you want to make these without a mix, you could use my favorite brownie recipe as the base instead.

  1. had to comment since I’ve never seen this combination before, thank you for sharing it! Don’t make a lot of sweets but this one will do, had never heard of using strawberry pie filling, seems like an even better fit for baking, so thank you again!

  2. Ah, pb&j take me back to the lunchbox days. Such a simple and delicious sandwich. Never reimagined them into brownies though. I’ll have to give these a try.
