Perfect Chocolate Buttercream Frosting Recipe for cakes and cupcakes! Plus an easy tutorial on how to frost a cupcake!


  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened baking cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream


  1. Beat butter for 3-5 minutes in a mixing bowl, until pale in color. Scrape down sides of bowl as needed.
  2. Add in powdered sugar, cocoa powder, almond extract, and heavy cream. Beat for an additional 3-5 minutes, scraping sides of bowl to fully blend frosting until light and fluffy.
  3. Use on cakes and cupcakes.
