The classic Chocolate Pudding you loved as a kid tastes even better when it's homemade! This Chocolate Pudding recipe creates a thick and creamy pudding with a silky finish.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 3 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 ¼ cups whole milk
  • 2 Tbsp cold salted butter
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Stir together sugar, cocoa, cornstarch, and salt in a medium sized saucepan. Whisk in cold milk until combined.
  2. Turn on heat to medium high and stir constantly until it reaches a boil.
  3. Set timer for 1 minute and boil while stirring constantly.
  4. Remove pan from heat and stir in butter and vanilla.
  5. Place in a separate bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Place plastic wrap directly against the pudding to prevent a skin from forming.
  6. Cool completely (about 1-2 hours) in the refrigerator.
  7. Once cooled, top with optional garnishes and serve.

Notes

  • Optional garnishes: chocolate flakes, whipped cream, fresh fruit
  • Store your chocolate pudding in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Because the consistency is likely to change in the freezer, I do not recommend freezing your homemade chocolate pudding.
  • Recipe adapted from Hershey's Chocolate
