How do you make Oreos even better? Dip them in chocolate! Dress up milk's favorite cookie for any holiday or occasion with this guide for how to make Chocolate Covered Oreos.

Ingredients

  • 36 Oreos cookies
  • 1 (10 oz.) package of dark chocolate melting wafers (I used Ghiradelli)
  • 1 (10 oz.) package of white vanilla melting wafers (I used Ghiradelli)

Toppings

  • Colored candy melts (I used the Wilton ones, can be purchased on amazon or at Michael’s, Joann Fabrics or Hobby Lobby)
  • Sprinkles or other holiday decorations

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, melt chocolate according to the package instructions.  Place an oreo flat on a fork and dip it into the chocolate.  Using a second fork, turn it over to make sure the whole Oreo gets covered with chocolate.  Using the bottom fork, lift the Oreo out of the chocolate and gently tap the fork on the edge of the bowl to remove any excess chocolate.
  2. Place the Oreo onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. If you are planning to decorate the Oreo with sprinkles or holiday decorations without adding drizzle to the top of the Oreo, you’ll want to decorate immediately before the chocolate hardens.
  4. If you would like to drizzle the Oreo with melted chocolate, let the first layer of chocolate set for about 30 minutes before doing so.  Melt the additional chocolate and drizzle using a fork or spoon.  You can also put sprinkles or decorations on top of the drizzle.
  5. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

    • If you want to use the Wilton colored candy melts sold at Michael’s or Hobby Lobby, put it in a  small ziploc bag after melting and pipe it across the top.  It isn’t liquid enough to be able to drizzle with a fork or spoon.
