Grease a 13x9 baking dish with baking spray. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, combine 3/4 cup of the flour, sugar, undissolved yeast and salt.
In a small saucepan, combine water, milk and butter over medium heat until very warm (about 120F). Add to flour mixture. Beat 2 minutes at medium speed of an electric mixer, scraping down sides of the bowl if needed.
Add egg and 1 more cup of the flour. Beat an additional 2 minutes on high speed. Add in remaining 1/2 cup of flour and beat until a stiff batter forms. Turn into prepared baking dish. Sprinkle with about 1 Tbsp of flour and press gently with fingertips until spread evenly in pan.
Arrange sliced apples over dough. In a small skillet, melt butter, sugar and cinnamon for the apple layer. Heat until bubbly and immediately pour over apples.
In a small bowl, combine streusel ingredients until crumbly. Sprinkle over apples. Cover pan with a clean, dry towel and let rise in a warm, draft-free place for about an hour. Dough should double in size.
Uncover and bake in a 375 degree F oven for about 25-30 minutes. Cool on wire rack before adding glaze.
For the glaze, whisk together the sugar, cream and cinnamon until smooth. Drizzle over cooled cake. Slice and enjoy!
Notes
Gather and measure out all your ingredients for the cake ahead of time. Not only will it save time, but you’ll be less likely to forget an important ingredient.
Feel free to keep the skin on your sliced apples for added visual appeal!
To prevent your apples from browning once they’re sliced, toss them with a teaspoon of lemon juice.
Keep an eye on your rising dough. Depending on how warm it is in your kitchen, it may rise faster or slower than indicated.
