This Cookies and Cream Cheese Ball is fun and delicious! Shape like a football for your next game day party!

Okay, let me have a moment of honesty. I love saying that we are Bears football fans….but I honestly can’t tell you the last time I sat down and watched an entire game.

Maybe 1985? I knew every word to the “Superbowl Shuffle.” I knew every player that year, and their numbers.

But, yes, that was 30 years ago and I no longer have a crush on Jim McMahon. I do, however, still know most of the words of the song, and I still proclaim myself as a Bears fan. And I still make sure to scoff at Packer’s fans every year.

As a good loyal football fan (haha) I enjoy making football treats. Remember these Chocolate Oatmeal Cream Pies and these Brownie bites and these Peppermint Patty Footballs?

Don’t even get me started on all the snacks and dips for this time of year!

But, it’s been awhile since I created a new “FOOTBALL” treat and since the Seahawks crushed the Packers (see what I did there, acted like I watched a football game when in truth the men in my house informed me of this detail, excitedly as if I would care), it’s time for a new treat.

It’s no secret I love making cheese balls. Savory? Sure. But it’s the sweet cheese ball that has my heart. I’ve linked up a few of my favorites down below the recipe!

The inspiration for today’s recipe came from a bag of Oreos. It was calling my name. I originally planned on coating a sweet cheese ball with Oreo crumbs, but then I decided last minute to toss those crumbs into the cheese ball instead and make it a Cookies and Cream Cheese Ball. Best decision ever. Adding the mini chocolate chips on top still gave that dark brown color to resemble a football.

There are a few tricks for the Cheese Ball:

  • First, after creaming the butter with the cream cheese and beating in the powdered sugar, take a big spoonful out of the bowl. No, don’t eat it (yet), put it in a small ziploc bag. This will be your “laces.” When it’s time to lace up, snip off the corner of the bag and pipe on your laces. Perfect!
  • Second, line a bowl with plastic wrap. Your going to drop your cheese ball into this bowl and wrap it up with the plastic wrap. Then refrigerate for at least one hour.
  • When you’re ready to serve (and decorate), shape your cheese ball onto a platter. Press your mini chips onto the top and sides. Pipe your laces on and it’s ready to eat. You can serve immediately, or refrigerate until ready to party!
  • I enjoy Nilla Wafers and pretzels with this cheese ball. However, graham crackers, gingersnaps, and other sweet dippers work great too! Apples? Sure, why not!

So, who are YOU rooting for this Football season? Or do you just show up for the food (like me?)!

Cookies and Cream Cheese Ball

Yield: 10-12 servings

Prep Time: 1 hour, 5 minutes

  • 1 package (8oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp chocolate syrup
  • 18 double stuff Oreos, crushed
  • 1 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate morsels

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat cream cheese and butter for 3 minutes. Add powdered sugar and beat an additional 2 minutes, scraping down the sides of the bowl as necessary. Remove a spoonful (about 2-3 Tbsp) and place in a small ziploc bag. Seal and set aside.
  2. To the bowl of cream cheese, add chocolate syrup and crushed Oreo cookies. Blend completely.
  3. Line a large bowl with plastic wrap. Drop the cream cheese mixture into the plastic wrap lined bowl. Fold up the plastic around the cheese ball. Refrigerate for about an hour.
  4. Remove plastic wrap and shape cheese ball into a football on a serving plate. Press chocolate chips into top and sides until completely covered. Using your reserved baggie of cream cheese mixture, snip off the corner and pipe "laces" onto your cheese ball.
  5. Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate for up to 3 days. Enjoy with pretzels, apples, or Nilla wafers.

  1. “We are the Bears, shuffulin’ crew. Shufflin on down, doin’ it for you” Oh boy did you bring up some great memories Aimee!! I was in 8th grade that year and of course, had every word of that song memorized!! -still do!! I also loved that “punky Q-B!! Too bad our Bears just don’t have the same flare anymore. I love this cheese ball and would probably inhale it. It would definitely have my attention more than any football game would! 🙂

  2. I wouldn’t go so far as to say I’m a Packer fan, but my dad is and every single one of my brothers are too, so I’m pretty sure I would be disowned if I didn’t at least try to enjoy their games. LOL. That being said, their last game was pretty dang painful. Ugh.
BUT at least there’s still football food, which you and I know are the most important part of the whole game. 😉 This cheeseball is screaming my name!

  3. Such a gorgeous dish! I would be a hero at my house. I love having football on, keeping tabs on what’s happening and socializing…but, I can’t remember the last time I sat down and watched an entire game. 🙂

  4. I love that you shaped this into a football! We’re huge college basketball fans so I’m sure I could adapt this by using butterscotch chips and turning it into a basketball shape. 🙂

  5. I’m no much into football or any sport for that matter. But the food, I’m all about. I can totally sit by the game day spread and snack away while everyone is focused in on the action. I’m not so sure there would be much of this cheese ball left though. I’m certain I would devour the majority of it. 🙂

  6. What a great football treat. 🙂 With all the talk of deflated footballs, love that this one is filled with cheese!

  7. Sounds like perfection! This would disappear in a flash at my house!

  8. Football is all about the food for me. I think this is one of the cutest ideas – so perfect for a superbowl party!

  9. I love how easy this is! My belief is that anything inspired by a bag of Oreos has to be amazing! 🙂

  10. I love that you still know the words to the superbowl shuffle, almost as much as I love t his cheeseball

The Superbowl shuffle….hilarious! My husband was a cameraman on that video (his flock of seagulls hair and all). Good times!! Thanks for sharing the recipe looks yummy…sweet cheese is awesome! Okay, any cheese is awesome!! thanks again!!

Oh man! what a blast from the past! I grew up in Chicagoland. Every Sunday during football season was Church followed my pizza form he pizza set ups my mom would buy from the grocery store owned by a friend of my Dad’s. Then we would devour the pizza and watch my Mom watch the Bears and yell at coach Ditka. LOL

The first super bowl party my husband and I ever hosted was for the Bears VS New England. We’d been married just over a year, and werel iving in military housing (Very nice housing by the way) and there was one love New England fan in the crowd.

    I miss those Bears.

    The cheese ball looks yummy.

  13. I’ve never heard of a cheeseball before, but sweet has my heart over savoury any day. Great decision on adding the crushed Oreos in and not coating (although I’m sure that would be delicious too), the mini chocolate chips are perfect with the laces.

  14. I have a cheese ball post on Monday…but savory and no where near as ‘festive’ as this! Quite the masterpiece you created here!!

  15. Cookies and cream anything is like my favorite combo ever! I’d be all over this cheeseball, protecting it and guarding it and making sure it was all mine. 😉 Just kidding. I’d totally share!

My boyfriend is a huge Bears fan, so naturally, I root for them, too. However, I think I only saw maybe one game this year. I very rarely ever watch an entire game, let alone any part of a game!

  16. Ohh yum! I’m such a sucker for anything cookies and cream flavored. This could be dangerous if left alone with me…

  17. Haha I totally feel the same way about football. I may have googled to see who was playing in the Super Bowl for a post! I’m all about the snack table during the Super Bowl and this treat would be a perfect addition!

  18. Super Bowl…that’s the one where they ride horses and hit things with sticks, right? LOL! Just kidding 🙂 I do know what sport it is (football) even if I don’t watch the game. I’m too busy scoping out the food table and shoving it all in my mouth. This is the coolest dessert! My girlie would be in 7th heaven if I made it for her…guess I know what dessert we will be having then, huh?

  19. wow! great idea! Do not throw the cake…ball I mean! 😉
