    Here’s What You Need

Bowls of Rice Krispie cereal, mini marshmallows, white chocolate wafers, butter, vanilla, sprinkles, and M&M candies—everything you need to make festive holiday Rice Krispie treats.

The full ingredient list is in the recipe card at the bottom of the post, but here are some highlights.

    • Salted butter – My secret to add some balance to the flavor. If you only have unsalted butter on hand, add a pinch of salt to the recipe.
    • Mini marshmallows – I melt some into the bars and fold some in, which gives you the perfect combination of textures.
    • Rice Krispies cereal – I recommend name brand Rice Krispies, as some store brands don’t have the same texture.
    • Holiday M&M’s and sprinkles – If your holiday doesn’t have M&Ms specifically made for it, the M&M website sells them in practically every color.
    • Ghirardelli white chocolate melting wafers – You can use another brand, but I think Ghirardelli has the best flavor.

    Instructions

    • Line a 9-inch square baking dish with parchment paper. Set it aside.
    • In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Once melted, add in all but 1 cup of the marshmallows. Reduce heat to low and continue stirring until completely melted.
    • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Add the cereal and the remaining 1 cup of marshmallows and gently stir until combined. Fold in 1 cup of the M&M's and all the sprinkles.
    • Pour into the prepared baking dish. Press GENTLY with your fingertips just until completely spread out. Drizzle the top with melted white chocolate and add the remaining 1/4 cup of holiday M&M's (you can even add a pinch of extra sprinkles too). Allow to set one hour before cutting and serving.

    Notes

    • Use any variety holiday M&M’s you like. I prefer the milk chocolate or peanut butter M&M’s for this recipe. The peanut have a little too much crunch for me.
    • Be sure to use fresh marshmallows and cereal. Stale ingredients results in stale treats.
    • I prefer using jimmies (the little log shaped sprinkles). They are soft and look great in these treats. Quins can also be used (these are the flat circles or shaped sprinkles). I would avoid non pareils for this recipe.
    • Swap out the holiday candy and sprinkles for any holiday you wish!
    • Store rice krispie treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
    • Freeze treats for up to 3 months.
