Why Froot Loop Treats Work

Making these Froot Loop Treats is a fun way to spend quality time with your little ones. Made using 4 simple ingredients, they take less than 10 minutes to put together.

Using our favorite rice krispies treat recipe as a starting point, you’re going to love these treats.

Here are a few reasons you’ll want to get started on making these treats ASAP:

  • Nostalgia Max. This recipe is a quick trip down memory lane. Whether it’s the memory of fussing over breakfast as a kid or having rice krispie treats as an afternoon snack. It truly brings back an ocean of memories.
  • Colorful and fun. These are any-occasion treats for kids, but they’re especially great for making a colorful spread at birthday parties. They’re also a good fit for school lunches, and participatory holiday gifting.
  • No bake. You don’t need an oven, candy thermometer, or any special skills to make this yummy treat.

Froot loops are a delicious base for this treat. But for more unique options, try our cheerio bars, lucky charms bars, and fruity pebbles treats for more delicious flavors.

Ingredient Notes

Ingredients needed to make froot loop treats.
  • Salted Butter – Salted butter helps balance the sweetness of the cereal and marshmallows. You can use unsalted butter but remember to add some extra kosher salt to maintain the balance.
  • Mini Marshmallows – You’ll need about 8-9 cups of marshmallows (16-ounce bag). You can swap it out for a 16-ounce bag of regular-sized marshmallows too. Or use my recipe for homemade marshmallows.
  • Vanilla Extract – It ties the whole recipe together. Make sure you use pure vanilla extract for the best flavor. Our homemade vanilla extract is perfect here.
  • Froot Loops Cereal – The cereal’s bright color makes these treats extra fun. You can use other cereals if you want.

Tips and Tricks

  • Use fresh cereal. Make sure you use fresh cereal. Stale cereal can really spoil the treats, and your effort will go to waste.
  • Make it in the microwave. Heat all but one cup of marshmallows with butter in a microwave-safe bowl for 60 seconds. Stir and heat for an additional 30 seconds. Fold in cereal and remaining marshmallows, then pour in the prepared dish. Make sure you keep an eye on the marshmallows while microwaving.
  • Don’t pack the cereal too tightly. Ideally, the cereal should be loosely packed. Don’t press too hard while setting the mixture in the pan. Densely packed treats will turn out tough and make them hard to take a bite off.
  • Don’t overheat the marshmallows. Overheating the marshmallows caramelizes the sugar in them. This makes the treats crunchy and hard instead of light and stretchy.
  • Let it cool before cutting. Cutting them while they’re still warm can be a very messy affair. Allowing the cereal treats to cool down before cutting helps get neat pieces with clean edges.
