Aimee’s Recipe Notes

My husband’s favorite flavor of dessert is (and always has been) strawberry. I’ve been making him strawberry flavored recipes for over 30 years now.
What I have found is when fresh-ripe berries aren’t in season, I still want to find a way to make his favorite treats.
With a little help from canned strawberry pie filling to freeze dried strawberries, we can enjoy strawberry desserts all year long.
I’m going to show you how to use each of these style berries in some of my favorite recipes.
💡How to Choose the Right Strawberries
Each type of strawberry works differently in recipes.
- Fresh Strawberries- best for light desserts, salads, and garnishes. Adds moisture to baking, so not always the best option for cakes and cupcakes.
- Canned Strawberry Pie Filling- best for easy, quick, and consistent recipes.
- Freeze-dried Strawberries- best for bold strawberry flavor in baking without added moisture. Perfect for cakes, frosting, etc.
Prevent Soggy Desserts- if using frozen berries, thaw and pat dry before using.
Boost Flavor- pairing berries with lemon juice or pure vanilla extract enhances strawberry flavor.
