Why this Recipe Works

I’ve got an insane recipe for you today. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Dip!

This dip has it all:

  • chocolate
  • peanut butter
  • cookie dough

All mixed together for the ultimate decadent scoopable dessert.

Peanut butter cookie dough dip gets its soft, creamy texture from cream cheese. Beaten with powdered sugar, it provides the perfect base the Reese’s bits and chocolate chips.

You end up with an amazing contrast of smooth and chunky textures to deliver all that great chocolate-peanut butter flavor to your mouth.

Scoop it up with pretzels and graham crackers or Nilla wafers. It takes a lot of willpower to resist just digging into the bowl with a spoon!

If you can’t resist eating the cookie dough when making Peanut Butter Cookies, this dip is created for you!

Ingredient Notes

Ingredients needed to make Reese's peanut butter cookie dough dip.

Chances are you have most of these ingredients already in your pantry! Stock up some Reese’s and you’ll be ready in minutes.

  • Peanut butter. Smooth creamy peanut butter works best.
  • Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. I used the mini peanut butter cups. Full sized Reese’s chopped into bite sized chunks will work too.
  • Chocolate chips. I prefer the texture of mini chocolate chips in the dip, however regular chocolate chips are fine if that’s all you have.
  • Cream Cheese. Make sure it’s softened first!

Recipe FAQs

Can I use salted butter instead of unsalted butter?

Yes, salted butter will work just fine in this peanut butter cookie dough dip recipe.

Why is my Cookie Dough Dip a darker color?

The dip may turn out darker if you use dark brown sugar. If the brown sugar mixture is still warm when you beat it into the dip, it will also cause the chocolate to melt into the dip a bit. This can result in a darker brown color.

What do you serve with cookie dough dip?

This Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Dip is amazing with all kinds of dippers. Pretzels, animal crackers and graham crackers are my favorite! Nilla wafers and apples are delicious choices too.

Can this recipe be made ahead of time?

Yes, you can make this dip up to 2 days in advance. Keep in the fridge until ready to serve!

Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ½ cup light brown sugar packed

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and whisk in the brown sugar and peanut butter. Heat until sugar dissolves (about one minute). Remove from heat immediately and allow to cool to room temperature (very important).
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat cream cheese with powdered sugar until creamy (about 3-4 minutes, don’t skimp on the beating time). On low, add in brown sugar mixture (that has cooled to room temperature). Mix until combined.
  • Fold in mini chocolate chips and mini Reese’s cups. Serve immediately or store in refrigerator until ready to serve. Enjoy with pretzels, animal cracker and graham sticks.

Notes

  • Light brown sugar is best to keep the dip a lighter color and help the peanut butter flavor shine through. You mix this with peanut butter and butter while warming on the stove.
  • Let the butter mixture cool completely while you beat together cream cheese and powdered sugar. Only add the butter mixture to the cream cheese once its fully cooled.
  • Add Reese’s and mini chips at the end. Be sure all the other dip ingredients are well combined, before mixing in the candies.
  • Serve immediately OR store in the fridge. It’s delicious room temperature or chilled!

Comments & Reviews

  1. Where does the vanilla extract come in? I followed the recipe and just realized that I never put the vanilla in it! It was still good but I kept thinking, “this could be sweeter…”

  2. Thanks for this recipe! Its the perfect addition to the birthday party I am planning for this weekend.

    I can’t wait to eat it! 🙂

  3. When am I supposed to add in the peanut nutter. It doesn’t say where in the directions?? Or am I just missing it?

  4. I made this and mine turned out brown, not white. I also noticed that the name has cookie dough in it but no where in the ingredients or recipe is cookie dough. Help?

    1. Hi Ashley,
I’m not sure why yours turned out brown. I think maybe you browned your butter too much? Or could be the brand of peanut butter. As for the cookie dough name…it’s a play on words. I have another recipe for cookie dough dip, without peanut butter. This recipe was based off of that one. you aren’t missing anything…there is no actual cookie dough!

  5. Hi Aimee,

I can’t locate the link for the peanut butter cookie dough dip. I apologize if I am missing it but it looks amazing and I cannot wait to try it!

  6. Oops also wanted to add that next time I will use less chocolate chips. I would’ve much prefered more peanut butter dip and less chocolate chips in the ratio.

  7. Here’s my review:

I made this and it is TO DIE FOR!

The commenters who said theirs came out too dark or just tasted like peanut butter and cream cheese must have made it wrong. It would come out too dark if you allowed the sugar to caramelize in the pan, naturally darkening the mixture. It would taste cream cheesey if you didn’t mix the cream cheese and powdered sugar long and well enough. (I hate cream cheese but LOVED this!) Lastly, to those who said it was runny, you must have married the hot and cold mixtures too soon, before the hot mixture cooled to room temp as instructed. Either that or you didn’t sufficiently chill the finished dip in the fridge.

I followed the preparation instructions to a T, with some minor ingredient changes. I used reduced fat creamy peanut butter (Jiffy) and reduced fat cream cheese. I also used a couple extra tablespoons of peanut butter, added at the same time as all the peanut butter is in the recipe. The recipe came out perfect, same color as in the photo. Everyone said it was amazing. One person said it should be illegal.

I should note that i did melt the butter in the pan first, before I added the sugar, to avoid caramelization. I followed on exactly as the recipe requested though. Everything can boil and heat up just fine as instructed. Sugars only caramelize when heated for a long time.

I also found the dip to be too hard straight out of the fridge. Next time I will stop chilling it for at least 10 minutes before serving.

Also, very important, this dip easily serves 8-10 people. I highly recommend cutting the recipe in half if only making for 4 people or so. We were left with wayyy too much leftover for my diet to handle ;). Sending some to work with the hubs.

Thanks so much for posting this recipe!

  8. Any other suggestions as to what to serve alongside this?? Apples? A specific cookie? I’m making this for a snack/dessert for a family dinner tomorrow night!

  9. ,I just made this and it’s not as light in color as the picture. I’m nervous I didn’t make it correct. Help?

    1. You probably cooked the sugar so long that it caramelized in the pan. That’s my guess. Mine came out light like the photo.

  10. That looks wonderful! However I was wondering if you had a similar recipe without the peanut butter. I would love to take this to Easter dinner but there’s a severe but allergy in my family 🙁 so while my hubby would die(he’s a huge pb fan) if I made this I don’t want the little kids to grab this without realizing that there is pb in it …

    1. Hi Christiana…I have a toffee chocolate chip here: https://www.shugarysweets.com/toffee-chocolate-chip-valentines-day-cheeseball
      ENJOY!!!

  11. Hey quick question, would this dip go well with cannolis? I’m having a dinner party sunday and I had this idea to put this dip into a cannoli shell! Thanks in advanced!

    1. It would be a little heavy for a traditional cannoli, but that certainly can work. I think the issue you would have is “piping” it into the shell. This dip is not “pipe-able”. GOOD LUCK.

  12. This looks sooo good im glad i saw it on facebook, thanks for the recipe it will most definitely get used.

  13. Is there a good substitute for the cream cheese? never been a fan of it but i’m the biggest fan of Reeses!! Great idea!!

  14. Holy cow I didn’t take your blog as offensive at all. It is light hearted and fun! 🙂 Don’t let haters be grumpy and get you down! You food is beautiful and I look forward to trying it all!!
